Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (Moebius) – Arzach (1976) — Arzach is a late 70’s wordless French comic which ran in a publication which would later be the inspiration for Heavy Metal, the magazine. Moebius’s Arzach is a triumph in storytelling as it reduced an entire story down to breathtaking panels of exploration via flying dinosaur. This raw and emotive style further capitalized on the imaginations of maturing fantasy enthusiasts which would later develop the core market for adult fantasy and sci-fi. While Moebius is known around science fiction and fantasy circles, his character designs were also used in the production of Tron, Dune, Willow, Alien and The Abyss. Moebius passed this life in 2012 at the age of 73. He is survived by his family and a portfolio of goddamn amazing artwork.
